Autumn in Canberra

| |

There’s a local tradition in Canberra that people don’t turn their heaters on until Anzac Day. Arriving back into Canberra just after Anzac Day I can see why heating is now required.

Having just been back to the UK for the Easter Holidays and enjoyed an unusually warm April in England, it’s no surprise I got a cold as soon as I arrived back in Canberra.

England was basking in a heatwave of 23 degrees over the Easter weekend, while Canberra in comparison was cold and blustery and a chilly zero degrees overnight the day I returned. Definitely time to turn the heating on.

Oh wait, what if you don’t have heating? There is no lovely central heating system in our rental property, like we are used to in the UK. So it’s on with the thermals and warm winter layers and plug in the oil-filled radiator.

Autumn in Canberra is beautiful as there is such an array of reds, oranges and golden leaves. It’s familiar to see the season changing, being used to it in the UK, but slightly unnerving to be rocketed from a UK Spring into a Canberra Autumn.

This will definitely be a good season for us to explore the outdoors (not too hot for bushwalking) as well as warm up in some of the capital’s attractions and art galleries.
