1st of December – the official start of summer!

It’s a hard concept to grapple with. Not only are we awake when everyone we know back home in the UK is sleeping, but now we learn that here in Canberra the 1st of December marks the start of the summer.

Whilst back in the UK the nights are drawing in, here in Canberra the daytime temperature is noticeably warming up.

This has a knock on effect we need to adjust to, for example our daughter Bella’s Birthday in the UK was a winter one, but here it is a summer one.

We’ve already put our tree up, early this year, but it seems strange to be Christmassy in the sunshine.

We thought we’d start out own family tradition this year by making a break to the beach for the day before it got too busy. Apparently over summer the coast is packed, as lots of people from Canberra head to their summer beach homes.

We enjoyed visiting Hyams Beach in Jervis Bay, which did not disappoint. Heralded as the “whitest sand beach in the world”. The sea was definitely sparking azure blue and the sand so fine and white and soft.
